Mary Prince received religious instruction from the Rev. Mr. Mortimer, who was curate of the Church of St. Mark. St. Mark is one city block from Claremont Square. At the time Mary Prince told her story to Susanna Strickland, Mary Prince had been under the Rev. Mr. Mortimer's ministry for almost 12 months. She would have attended this church.

Thomas Pringle, and his wife Margaret, lived at 7 Solly Terrace, Claremont Square. Mary Prince was employed by them as a paid domestic servant, and she lived with them. 7 Solly Terrace is now gone, but it is where Mary Prince told her story to Susanna Strickland, who then compiled it.
